Connection Troubleshooting: Disconnects, Login Failures, and more

Why connections drop

Even with cloud copying, broker sessions can be interrupted by:

  • broker maintenance or restarts

  • authentication/session timeouts on the broker side

  • network instability between broker infrastructure and their API

  • login/security events (password changes, permission changes, etc.)

When this happens, Tradesyncer may recover automatically, but some cases require manual action.


First steps (do these first)

  1. Reconnect the broker connection inside Tradesyncer

  2. If it still fails, delete the connection and add it again (fresh authentication)

  3. Confirm the status returns to Healthy/Connected

If you’re still stuck after re-adding, contact support with a screenshot of the connection status and the error message.


Tradovate / NinjaTrader connection issues

OAuth token renewal (what Tradesyncer does for you)

Tradovate uses OAuth-based authentication. Tradesyncer automatically renews your OAuth token as long as you keep the connection added in Tradesyncer.
In most cases, you should not need to “babysit” token refresh.

When you may still need to reconnect

You may need to reconnect if:

  • Tradovate ends the session unexpectedly and our reconnect attempts do not succeed.

  • you removed/re-added accounts or permissions changed

  • your login/security settings changed on the broker side

  • the connection shows Disconnected and does not recover

Fix

  • Click Reconnect

  • If reconnect fails: Delete the connection → Add it again


ProjectX connection issues

Use the correct username (most common issue)

ProjectX usernames are not always your email.

Fix

  • Open your prop firm dashboard

  • Go to Profile

  • Use the username shown there

API key issues

Before connecting:

  • confirm the API key is linked to the correct ProjectX dashboard / account

  • copy the full key (no missing characters)

Session limits

If ProjectX logs you out repeatedly:

  • keep only one active session open

  • avoid multiple tabs/windows signed into the same account


Rithmic connection issues

Step 1: Make sure the Rithmic agreement is signed

If the agreement isn’t signed and activated, authentication will fail.

Fix

  • Log in to your prop firm dashboard

  • Find the Rithmic agreement section

  • Sign and wait for confirmation/activation before connecting

Common errors and fixes

“Authentication failed”

  • verify username/password (case-sensitive)

  • confirm correct System (prop firm environment) is selected

  • try a different Gateway location

“Already logged in”
Rithmic often allows only one active session per credential.

  • close any platform using the same credentials (R|Trader, NinjaTrader, etc.)

  • reconnect in Tradesyncer

“Gateway connection failed”

  • try a different gateway location

  • gateways can be under maintenance
